Leonid Stadnyk, believed to be the
world’s tallest man at 8ft 4 inches
has died. He was just 44. The
peasant farmer from the Ukrainian
village of Podoliantsy, died on
Sunday August 24th from a brain
haemorrhage after health
problems.
In his last interview, Leonid, He
talked about how his height was a
curse, why he refused to be
measured by the Guinness Book of
World Records and also why he
refused to get married
“To me, my height is a curse,
a punishment from God, not
something to celebrate. What
sin I have committed, I do
not know. All my life I have
dreamed of being just like
everyone else. I don’t want
or need the fame that this
would bring so I have no
desire to be in this Guinness
book.
“I never got married because
I don’t want to inflict my
problems on a wife. I think it
would not be fair on her” he
said.
At one point, his condition, called
giganticism, left him growing at
the rate of roughly a foot every 3
years. His feet measured 18 inches
in length while his palms were
more than a foot in diameter.

World’s Tallest Man Leonid Stadnyk From Ukrain, Dies Aged 44
I Don’t Flaunt My Wealth But There Is Nothing I Need That I Can’t Afford – Reminisce
Indigenous rapper, Remilekun
Shafaru popularly known as
Reminisce speaks with JAYNE
AUGOYE about his journey to fame
Indigenous rap, no doubt, is one of
the most preferred music genres in
Nigeria today and Remilekun
Shafaru, better known as
Reminisce , is one of the poster
boys, alongside the likes of
Olamide and Phyno, leading a
thriving campaign to spread it
across the globe.
Famous for his versatility and the
street appeal of his songs,
Reminisce was the only rapper
from Africa mentioned in TIME
Magazine’s recent ‘One of the
seven world rappers you should
meet’ list.
He earned this recognition a few
months after he had dropped his
second album titled, Alaga Ibile.
Many music fans, who had always
known him as a very reserved and
under-celebrated rap artiste in the
country, were practically
speechless with surprise when the
news was broken.
Even Reminisce himself learnt of
this single honour while travelling
to neighbouring Ghana by air.
He tells E-Punch, “I got to know
about the listing by TIME
magazine on my way to Ghana. I
didn’t influence it. I only saw a
statement posted on Twitter by the
chief executive of Chocolate City,
Audu Maikori.
I didn’t pay much attention to it
and all the while, I wondered what
business I had with the magazine.
By the time my plane landed in
Ghana, the congratulatory
messages began to pour in. I don’t
even follow those who sent them
on Twitter. But, being the only
African listed by Time Magazine is
something else.”
For the light-skinned rapper, the
road to stardom was fraught with
challenges.
At one point, he was forced to
leave home because his father
wanted him to become a medical
doctor.
Recounting his humble beginning
and how frustration almost drove
him to quit music, the 31-year-old
Samsung brand Ambassador says
, “It’s true that I almost quit music
four months before my fortune
improved. I became a star around
late 2011, after I released Kako Bi
Chicken .
The video of that song was
released around the period that
Nigerians were protesting against
the removal of fuel subsidy. I had
just become a father at that time
and I realized that I couldn’t
continue the same way.
“I almost quit music because
I wasn’t making any money.
You know, money controls
the industry today, unlike the
past when talent did.”
Reminisce owes his versatility in
Yoruba to his father’s insistence
that he must learn to speak the
language. Often pitched against
Olamide, the artiste, who studied
Purchasing and Supply at the
Kwara State Polytechnic, simply
regards the latter as his ‘partner in
progress.’
“Olamide and I have always
complemented and supported each
other’s career. We don’t see each
other as rivals. We have been able
to change the image of indigenous
rappers and as sensible people,
the only thing to do is to support
each other and improve the genre.
Only the fans can tell who is a
better rapper. At the end of the
day, the issue is not about who is
better, but who is successful.”
The artiste, who once hawked
second-hand clothes and shoes at
the popular Yaba Market, Said
“I wrote the hit song, Don’t
Touch my Body for late
Goldie and was never
credited. But, it is okay.
There are many songs you
write and don’t get credited
for. I don’t really care about
such things, neither do I like
to complain or bear grudges.
I don’t really want to reveal
or speak about others.”
Reacting to the display of wealth
by some of his colleagues on
social media, he says, “I am a very
reserved artiste. I am able to
differentiate between Reminisce
the artiste and Remi the family
man.That is why I don’t promote
luxury.
There is nothing I need that I
can’t afford, but I am not
going to show off on social
media. When artistes do
such a thing, they appear
superficial and
unapproachable to their
fans. Instead, I simply invest
in people.”
Reminisce notes that loyalty is one
virtue that is absent in the global
entertainment scene.
“One reason why I don’t have
friends is because nobody is
willing to see you take their spot.
The moment you become a star, a
lot of people will be unhappy. But
they will smile with you,” he says.
Although the rapper, who was
discovered alongside Jahbless,
9ice, Lord Of Ajasa and Olamide by
ID Cabasa, was blessed with a
second child early in the week, he
appears to be in no hurry to walk
down the aisle.
“Yes, we live together. But we have
issues with commitment. I think
we are not ready for marriage yet.
We will formalize things when the
right time comes. I am still
planning my future because I am
not going to be a musician forever.
I will quit music, maybe after a
decade. I hope to also study
Political Science overseas because
I want to go into politics (House of
Representatives) at some point as
well,” he notes.
I’m one of world’s best at number 10 – Ozil
I’m one of world’s best at number
10 – Ozil
Ozil, 25, joined Arsenal from Real
Madrid a year ago in a club-record
£42 million ($69.7 million, 31.1
million euros) transfer, but he
shone only fitfully in his first
season at the Emirates Stadium.
Nevertheless, he finished the
season as an FA Cup-winner and
then won the World Cup with
Germany, and he believes that if he
is yet to impose himself in the
Premier League, it is because
manager Arsene Wenger plays him
on the left flank.
“I’m one of the best players in the
world in that number 10 position.
Fans, coaches, players and
everyone knows that my best
position is playmaker. It’s different
playing on the left,” he told
Saturday’s edition of the Daily
Telegraph.
“When I was in Madrid, I often
played on the right. I enjoyed that
because I’m left-footed and I was
able to cut inside to give assists
and get shots on target. On the
left, it’s more difficult.
“The opinions of fans are
important to me and I’m happy
they have such high expectations
of me. I have high expectations of
myself.”
Wenger had defended Ozil on
Friday, comparing him to a
virtuoso musician and claiming
that his contributions to Arsenal’s
attacking play were unfairly
overlooked.
“People are very harsh on Ozil
because he’s a player who is easy
with his play,” said the
Frenchman, ahead of his side’s trip
to Leicester City on Sunday.
“When you watch his game back
the next day, you think, ‘What a
player.’ Everything he does is
intelligent and the timing of
absolutely everything he does is
absolutely perfect.
“He’s like a guy who plays music
with perfect timing. There aren’t
many players like that.”
Despite his reservations about
where he has been asked to play,
Ozil said that he enjoyed working
with Wenger.
“The whole club can be proud to
have such a fantastic manager
with so much experience, playing
with style and doing so many great
things for 18 years here,” he said.
“The boss has always blooded
youngsters, and helped make them
into some of the best players in
the world. That’s also why I came
here. I wanted to develop myself
further.”
Why I have a crush on Tiwa Savage —Konet
Afro hip hop singer Konet who is
signed on to Purple Ice
Entertainment has revealed the
reasons why he has a crush on
Tiwa Savage.In a chat with
Showtime the Mummy Joanna
crooner says:”
Tiwa Savage is my celebrity crush.I
love her personality, her delivery
on songs and most importantly
the fact that she has a great and a
unique voice.I look forward to
working with her.
The suave dude also reveals what
drives him:”In this music business
what drives me is simply doing
good music.I am not driven by
fame not even money though the
money is important.On whether he
is intimidated by the likes of
Davido and Wizkid he says:”
I am not intimidated by the likes
of Davido and Wizkid because we
are equally talented but I get
inspired by their work ethic and
achievements “

It’s fun working with Juliet Ibrahim —Mercy

actress has stepped out to debunk
the rumour, saying it’s all false.
*Mercy

my marital life, its about a young

experiences.
I am out here to make a change in

enlightenment.
I will say that it was fun working

Life After Omoladun: Baba Suwe finds love again; to remarry soon
*Tells his NDLEA story
Babatunde Omidina known as
Baba Suwe is a successful
comedian better known for his
exploits in Yoruba home videos.
He is still arguably the most
popular Yoruba comedian of his
time. But Baba Suwe hasn’t been
having it easy. After the much
publicised crisis with National
Drug Law Enforcement
Agency,NDLEA, he lost his wife,
Omoladun, who was almost always
his soul-mate, even in films. Baba
Suwe talked with Potpourri,
opening up his heart on a number
of issues, Excerpts:
When did you begin to act?
I started acting at 18 when I
dropped out of secondary school,
then I was in form four. I
developed the passion when Baba
Mero and his group came to
Children boarding school in
Osogbo to act. After watching
them, I got drums and other
musical instrument, picked some
guys in my street like Mufitau
Ilumoka, Sola Taiwo and a host of
others and formed a theater group.
And that was what
metamorphosed into the brand
‘Baba Suwe’ today.
Baba Suwe
Are you saying you never went for
any training?
No, I didn’t and I was not trained
by anybody. I was born with the
talent of putting smiles on faces,
so I really did not need any
training.
Your first show?
My first show was at Amuto
playing ground, Lagos Island.
Although it was a free show but I
was so happy because it recorded
a huge success.
What was your first movie?
I did not start with home videos
rather I started with soap opera
“Erin keke”. My first film was “Omo
Lasan” by Mr Obalende. But the
first film I produced was “Baoku”
in the 90s.
Some people believe you over act
some scenes. Your comment?
It is not my fault. Most times when
I am on set, I make the director,
film editor and a lot of others
laugh that they forget to cut out
the unnecessary parts. Some
people have even confronted me
that it is because I didn’t acquire
any professional training is why I
over act, but it is not true.
Tell us your background?
I am a special specie created by
God. I hail from Igbgogbo, Ikorodu,
Lagos State but born and bred on
the Island. My father was an
average Nigerian who was into
trading of eye-glasses and my
mother was a trader . I am the
only child between my parents. My
father had three wives. I dropped
out of secondary school when I
was in form four. Growing up for
me was tough but fun. I enjoyed
every bit of it because I was quite
mischievous. As a teenage, I didn’t
really know the importance of
education but thank God, I am
managing well. I am also a
different person from what you see
on the screen, a quiet and easy-
going person.
As a child, who were you looking
up to?
Then I wanted to be like Michael
Jackson who was known all over
the world but now I know better.
What has acting brought you.?
Acting has brought me many good
things that I can not say here. I do
not think I would have done well in
any other field.
How have you been coping without
a wife?
It has not been easy but life must
go on. I believe whatever happens
has been pre-ordained. The death
of Omoladun was a great loss I
cannot get over in this lifetime.
She will remain my best
companion. She understood me
than any other person on planet
earth. At times when we quarrel in
the house, she would abuse me on
set and that would mark the end of
the issue.
Any plan of remarrying?
Yes . In fact pretty soon.
Who is the lucky bride?
You can’t know her for now. She is
not an actress because I can’t
marry an actress again.
Are you insinuating Omoladun was
not a good wife?
No, I don’t mean anything of such.
What I mean is that I cannot get
someone like Omoladun among the
actresses again. Her good acting
skills is one of the reasons I loved
her but I have decided to check
else where for love.
After the death of Omoladun, your
step daughter accused you of
killing her mother?
That is mere rumour. She later
came out to say she never said
that. We were all staying in the
same building. Omoladun was
hypertensive for a long time and I
did my best as a husband, a
friend, and colleague to take
adequate care of her. At a time she
spent months at a hospital. The
day the bad incident happened, I
was about praying when I told my
child to go wake Omoladun
because we had an appointment. It
was this child who ran out to call
me and with the help of neighbors,
we rushed her to the hospital. The
doctor confirmed her death on
arrival.
Has her death affected your
career?
Not really. There are many people
who can take her role but I miss
her so much. After her death, I
produced “Baba Jaiye” part two
and it was a huge success.
Would you say many competitors
like Baba Latin, Baba Ijesa etc
have taken over from you?
No, Baba Latin and the rest can
never render me useless. I have a
good relationship with all of them
especially Baba Latin. Everything
in life is time.
Many people now believe you are
not as funny as you used to, what
is your comment?
That is never true. It is only people
without eyes that will say that. It
is my God-given talent that can
never wear out.
How did you feel during the
National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency NDLEA crisis?
It was a tough time for me. I have
been traveling for years and
something like that never
happened. It is a setup but I do
not know the culprits till date.
Even after two days of not
excreting cocaine as expected, I
was not left off the hook. Some
even said I used charms but if that
is true many herbalists in Nigeria
should be billionaires. I spent
more than nineteen days sleeping
on a couch for something I know
nothing about.
What were you going to do at Paris
before you were detained?
I was suppose to meet the person
who handles my family’s ticketing
abroad. The man wanted my
presence at the naming ceremony
of his new child. On that same day,
I went to Nigerian Aviation
Handling Company NAHCO’S office
to get my cameras as I traveled to
America a month earlier to get
filming equipment like cameras
and generator before heading to
the Airport. I was also to be
Master of Ceremony there.
Now that your lawyer, Bamidele
Aturu is dead, what is the next line
of action?
I really don’t know what next to do
but I believe his colleagues will not
disappoint me.
Do you believe you deserve the 25
million naira compensation?
Yes I do. The crisis traveled so far
that even if I use all the
newspapers in Nigeria to say my
own side of the story, some people
will still not believe it. It almost
killed me, tarnish my image and
my career.
Old Oyo Park: Where history blends with nature
People come here with a mindset
to see some big animals like Roan
Antelope, Buffon, Buffalo, Bushbuck
and a variety of birdlife. But this is
not often the case as this park is
more than fauna and flora.”
These were the startling words
from one of the staff at the Old
Oyo National Park’s office in Oyo
town, Oyo state.
I had travelled from Lagos to the
park that morning to experience
the preserved culture, historical
and archaeological features in the
abandoned sites of the then
capital city of the ancient Oyo
empire at Oyo-Ile, Bara and Koso.
Old Oyo national park is a unique
park among the others in the
country. It is so in the sense that
apart from the preservation of flora
and fauna resources the park is
highly blessed with historical
features.
Before the almost two hours
journey from Oyo town to Oyo-Ile,
Adeniyi Bola prepared my mind on
what to see at the site. “The
ancient Oyo empire was one of the
first states to emerge in the forest
and coastal region in West Africa
and one of the most culturally
advanced. The empire reached its
peak between the 17th and 18th
centuries.
“Several ancient histories, political
sites both within and outside the
park are associated with Oyo Ile.
Among these are Igboho, Ipapo-Ile
and Koso. At one time, these sites
served as the capital of the
empire,” she stated.
Listening as she conducted me
round the mini-museum at the
Park’s headquarters, I was eager
to commence the trip when the
tour guide, Ajadi said the vehicle
was ready.
As we made to depart, Bola said,
“In this park, we blend our history
with nature”. This stuck in my
mind as I traversed the park in
search of history and nature.
Having driven for a long distance,
we got to Akoto tourist camp, near
a village called Sepeteri, where the
camp accommodation is available.
The facility is well furnished with
good beddings, portable water and
satellite television service. We set
out for the central and southern
sector of the park where more of
game viewing tracks have been
opened up.
At the entrance of the Ibuya Base
camp immediately after the buffer
zone, we were welcomed by
rangers stationed to wade off
poachers. As we were joined by
some heavily armed rangers, I was
forced to ask why they needed
such arms and ammunition.
“The area has suffered
indiscriminate and uninhibited
destructive human activities
including hunting. As a result, the
animal species have been greatly
depleted and some species have
either become locally extinct or
rare,” the ranger said.
“Game viewing is always good in
the morning and during the dry
season,” Ajadi, my tour guide
explained.
We drove through the trails that
have been mapped out in the park
towards the river for a boat ride on
the Ogun River. At the river side,
Ajadi pointed out some foot marks
of animals that had come to the
river to drink water.
The journey back to the Akoto
base was an educative one as
Ajadi became my botany teacher,
disclosing that there are four sub
types of vegetation at the park,
“dense woodland and forests;
mixed open savannah woodland ;
outcrop vegetation and riparian
grassland and fringing woodland.”
We left Akoto Tourist camp very
early in the morning for the trip to
Oyo –Ile. The trip took us first to
Igboho, the sites of the royal
cemeteries, “four Obas reigned here
among them a lady,” Said Ajadi,
my tour guide.
As we drove from Igboho through
Igbeti, the tour guide disclosed
that the name of the park is coined
from the ruin of old Oyo empire ,
the park had been in existence in
the past as two game reserves-
the upper Ogun games reserve and
the Oyo Ile games reserve.
The Oyo Ile game reserve was the
abandoned site of old Oyo Empire
where the present day Oyo came
from. The Oyo people settled down
in so many places before they got
to the present Oyo town.
“One of those places is Oyo ile
which falls within the park today.
Before we arrived Oyo –Ile, we
stopped over at Ikoyi – Ile where
there is the Antete shrine . Inside
the shrine is a pot that contains
swarm of honey bees which used
to fight for the people of the town
by stinging enemies to death.
“Truly , he has been doing that
whenever they call on him at the
hill of Antete where the bees will
rise to sting their enemies to
death. If there is problem among
two groups and they go before this
hill, the group that is at fault will
be stung by the bees.”
We soon arrived Oyo –Ile
legendary sites, the largest
concentration of archaeological
and cultural sites that contain
more than twenty of the identified
relics.
I was struck by the hosts of
cultural artefacts that litter the
sites like grinding stones; earthen
pots potsherds; snags, snail
shells; mud walls; mound of ashes
and charcoals that are still
discernible with the abandoned old
settlement till date.
The walls called the Koso defence
wall, according to my tour guide ,
was built round the city of old
Oyo-Ile; it is about 6.5ft high and
they made holes on it where they
spy on those coming in . The wall
made with mud is still standing till
date right from 16th c.
To show that people really
inhabited the town, there are relics
of mejiro industrial sites that
consisted of black smiting, iron
forgery sites and grain milling
sites. Next to this site is the
Akesan market.
The large water reservoir is another
great site. “This is the ancient well
where water is stored in the olden
days . The town was located in a
rocky area and we know it is
difficult to dig well and get water
in rocky area, so that made them
dig underground reservoir where
they stored rain water during the
raining season and made use of it
during the dry season,” the tour
guide revealed.
Old Oyo national Park is not only
about historical sites, there are
beautiful and marvellous sceneries
of fascinating rock formations like
the Oke Agbele looking as though
they would topple over the next
minute.
“The story behind Oke Agbele is
that a woman with a baby on her
back stole cassava flavour , so this
is the stolen property on her head
and the baby as she turned to a
stone.”
Others like Agbaku, Idi Are and
Mejiro, have formed large caves
that served as good shelters in the
olden days during the war.
The Kosomo hill is another rock
inside the park. This is situated in
the central part of Oyo Ile . In the
olden days they believe this rock
has the power to find their lost
one. “The great Agbaku cave. The
cave was a hide out during the
Yoruba wars in the olden days ,
the cave has significance ,
something like power of back to
sender.
Any opponent that met the Oyos at
this point will fight and destroy
themselves instead of fighting the
Oyos. The cave can accommodate
up to 1000 people at a time . One
of the mysteries contained in the
park is the mysterious iron which
was said to have been used by
Alafin Sango, called Ogun Joko. “If
you look at it as a very small thing
and try lifting it , you will not be
able to do that, but just thinking
that they said this iron is heavy
and try lifting it you will be
surprise to lift it. So there is
mystery under the iron truly.

EBOLA: This Is What US Gave To Nigeria To Contain Spread Of The Virus
The United States Government has
donated equipment worth $5,000
to boost screening of the Ebola
Virus Disease at the Murtala
Muhammed International Airport so
as to contain its spread in Nigeria.
The US Consul General in Nigeria,
Mr. John Hawkins, made the
donation at the airport on Friday,
August 22, at the airport.
“The donation of the
equipment is a symbol of
willingness on the part of the
American Government to
assist Nigeria in any way
possible to combat the
scourge,” he said.
Known as infrared thermometers or
non-contact thermometers, the
portable handheld equipment has
the ability to measure body
temperature of in-bound and out-
bound passengers for possible
Ebola symptoms from a distance.
Hawkins, who expressed
satisfaction with the timely
response of the Nigerian
Government to the contagious
disease since its importation into
the country by a Liberian-
American, Patrick Sawyer, a month
ago, commended the measures
already put in place at the Lagos
airport.
According to Punch report,
Hawkins pointed out that the
deadly virus neither a Nigerian nor
West-African problem but a
problem to humanity as a whole.
He also applauded the Federal
Airports Authority of Nigeria
(FAAN) for providing the necessary
infrastructure for the Port Health
Services and collaborating
agencies to effectively discharge
their duties in the face of the
threat posed by the Ebola virus.
After the first case of Ebola was
reported in Nigeria which came
into the country through Sawyer
who flew in from Liberia, in-bound
and out-bound passengers
especially from West African
countries where the virus is
spreading have been undergoing
screening at the airport.
The African Union (AU)
Commission recently decided to
deploy a joint military medical
personnel and civilian
humanitarian mission to help with
the Ebola virus outbreak in parts of
West Africa.
Since the outbreak began there
have been 2,615 cases and 1,427
deaths, according to the World
Health Organisation.
Chocolate City Disses Olamide And Others On Twitter!
Now that M.I Abaga is back on the
music scene after almost five years
of break, we imagine the panic
attack this may have caused other
rappers.
We all know M.I used to own the
rap stage but after the break, other
rappers like Olamide, Phyno sprang
up and have been making waves.
That’s why M.I’s record label,
Chocolate City threw a major diss
at Olamide, Phyno and other major
rappers, saying M.I is ready to give
them a chase for their money.
That further buttresses the idea
behind M.I’s rebound single, ‘King
James’ where he reaffirms himself
as the only king of Africa and
Nigerian rap.
In a picture message posted on
Instagram by Chocolate City, it
reads; “Naija rappers be like…so
M.I Abaga is back?…Chei! we are
finished! #KingJames”
We wonder what Olamide and
others think about this major diss
right now…let the battle begin…we
love this!

music scene after almost five years
of break, we imagine the panic
attack this may have caused other
rappers.
We all know M.I used to own the
rap stage but after the break, other
rappers like Olamide, Phyno sprang
up and have been making waves.
That’s why M.I’s record label,
Chocolate City threw a major diss
at Olamide, Phyno and other major
rappers, saying M.I is ready to give
them a chase for their money.
That further buttresses the idea
behind M.I’s rebound single, ‘King
James’ where he reaffirms himself
as the only king of Africa and
Nigerian rap.
In a picture message posted on
Instagram by Chocolate City, it
reads; “Naija rappers be like…so
M.I Abaga is back?…Chei! we are
finished! #KingJames”
We wonder what Olamide and
others think about this major diss
right now…let the battle begin…we
love this!
